LA Oktoberfest

The Oktoberfest in Munich is the biggest beer festival in the whole world. For many years also AEGEE and Les Anciens members have been attracted to this huge gathering in the Bavarian capital. Since the city and its surroundings have a lot more to offer than just the beer festival, Les Anciens member Stefan Recksiegel organises a special three-day weekend for Les Anciens members during the last weekend of the Oktoberfest since 2009.

“Attending the Oktoberfest in Munich is always something very special,” says Les Anciens member Michael Groll from Kiel, who has been to all of the three Les Anciens Oktoberfest events so far. “There is an extraordinary atmosphere in the whole city. There are many young people, dressed in their old costumes, which gives a very colorful picture.” The mood of all people is great, despite the huge masses. “This is not only because of the pleasure of beer, which is served in one-liter jars,” adds Michael.

In 2011, the 20 participants took a trip to Lake Ammersee on Saturday, where the participants made a sailing trip in a boat, followed by traditional Bavarian meals. On Sunday, the group had a drink in the English Garden of Munich in the morning, followed by the visit to the Oktoberfest. Stefan Recksiegel managed to reserve a table in the Hofbräuhaus, one of the main attractions of the huge party territory. Michael Groll: “The Les Anciens group had amazing fun and celebrated until the night, which also was the end of the event. I’ll be be back next year.”
